Accreditation Practice Run
Starting at $1000
Would you like some feedback about strengths and improvements for your program before an upcoming accreditation? We can create a practice run, complete with interviewing staff and students so you can get an idea of what type of feedback you might get at an accreditation. This comes with a full report, complete with recommendations based on each standard of the CMTCA.
Timing for a best case scenario: if we can do this at least 6 months before your accreditation, that gives you valuable time to make any changes needed, and show that a process is in place and working. The “Met” criteria of the CMTCA, requires a process to be operational for at least 6 months. If we are less than 6 months away from your accreditation, that’s okay, we can still make changes. A “partially met” is better than a “not met” and it’s never too late to make improvements!
You can decide how many of the standards you want reviewed. We can go over all of it or just a few areas. It depends on what you need!

Students come from all different backgrounds and have different needs. How we respond to these differences can make or break the student experience. In this course, we check in with ourselves first so we can become more aware of the messages we have received over the years. Then this course will examine a little on each of the following:
• Autism spectrum disorder
• ADHD
• Dyslexia
• Cultural sensitivity, and how to support our bilingual students
• LGBT+ community
• Ageism
The final section of this course will focus on effective communication, and strategies to minimize or remove communication barriers. -

What do you remember about being in school? What lectures or activities stand out to you? We want harness the excitement of learning and to create a fun and memorable experience for our students. This has the fortunate side effect of making the material easier to remember.
This course starts with the types of memory and how memory works. Then we move into the fun stuff: what we can do as instructors to get the information to stick! We review strategies for lesson plans, lectures, and activities we can do in class to help make our classes interesting and memorable. Bonus: classes that are more engaging for students are also more fun to teach!
This class will provide LOTS of practical strategies that you can apply to your classroom right away! -
Length: 4 hours
Price: $500
Have you struggled getting ALL your staff on the same page on how to mark exams, particularly oral practical exams? This workshop we discuss best practice for marking exams, what needs to be in a rubric, and what to do if you’re in doubt. We will discuss strategies to ensure the students are marked fairly, and not too hard or too easy.
Part of the course will allow for time for instructors to express concerns they have in marking, and brainstorm solutions to their specific concerns. No system will ever be perfect, but we can get the staff marking more similar to each other and more confident in defending the marks they give. -
Length: 4 hours

It’s good to review the fundamentals! Teaching adults is definitely not the same as teaching children. Adults come to class with their own perspective and experience, they are more self directed, and they tend to incorporate their life experience into what they are learning. Unlike children, it’s very important they know why they need to learn something in order for it to be relevant (remember learning trigonometry in high school without practical application and just going along with it?). We will also explore the types of learners: visual learners, auditory learners and kinesthetic learners. This course will discuss how to create a lesson plan that caters to as many students as possible in each lesson, all while minimizing work to the instructor.

This workshop will discuss common conflicts that occur between staff, and between staff and students. We will talk about the best ways to prevent conflict by setting clear expectations, and what to do help yourself as an instructor if you’re finding yourself debating with students about their marks!
There are five main ways to resolve conflict, all with varying degrees of assertiveness and cooperation. You will discover your typical ways of resolving conflict, and learn about the other options you have depending on your situation.
This course will include some role playing of actual conflicts your staff have experienced and explore multiple approaches to solve the issue. There is often more than one right answer! -
